Decorative painting is a diverse art form utilizing a variety of techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces. The Society of Decorative Painters was organized in 1972 to act as a central dissemination point for information about activities related to decorative painting, to raise and to maintain a high standard for the art of decorative painting, and to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the art form. The Society of Decorative Painters boasts over 22,000 members throughout the United States and forty-two other countries.
